I'd go for BLE. Most modern gadgets runs on 4.0, and would be a major addition to BASIC!.

I think BLE is very important for astronomy.
Look at the TI Sensortag - a great device for less than $30 to install in a scope - Humidity, orientation, acceleration, temperature, infrared temperature,
But it needs BLE.
And the current HM10 etc support a simple ATX command structure.
FWIW ..

Scott and I are still around and are willing to help with the BLE stuff. We don't know much about RFO BASIC. But, we do know a bit about BLE (see http://botspine.com/ as an example of our projects).

BLE is more important than USB because you want to skate where the puck is going, not where the puck has been. This is where I see the puck going:

Mobile computing should be done on mobile computing devices (phones, tablets etc.).
Mobile computing devices will lose hardware ports (e.g. wireless charging, BT headphones etc.)
Even if the micro USB port sticks around for a few more years, its not really something you want to connect DIY stuff to. (Its fragile and you could blow up your phone.)
BLE actually works and is really quite easy to use.

Cheers,
Kai

I have a test implementation of Bluetooth Low Energy.
What hardware would you advise for tests?
Ideally I would need a programmable device or at least versatile (that accepts read write notify and indicate)

Smartwatch anyone? Or a fitness tracker? Most of them run on 4.0 nowadays.

Hello Nicolas,

if you have possibility to use a second smartphone with BLE, there's many APK that can monitoring everything that is exchanged between the two devices :)

ABT
BLE Scanner
Bluetooth LE Scanner (with a link on Github )

Hope it help

Cheers

Gilles
